5 Ways to Get Active Outdoors in Lewes

It's not a secret that there is a lot to do in Lewes, DE. Just the fact that you are mere minutes away from the Tanger Outlets provides ample hours of activities ranging from shopping to dining. But if you're looking for some activities that will have you and the family outside and active, here are just six of our favorite things to do around time.

Take a ride

Lewes is definitely a bike-friendly town. Enjoy taking a ride down any one of our sandy beach roads lined with cozy beach homes. Or, cruise into town for a coffee, cocktail, or bite to eat. For those more seasoned cyclists, enjoy a 16-mile loop that will take you from Lewes to Rehoboth and back again. While it is a longer loop, the trail is flat and lends itself to a pit-stop in Rehoboth for a quick snack (or cocktail...) before the second leg of the trip back into town. Included with your stay at the Lewes House are 6 bikes in your garage, so don't worry about loading up your bike rack just remember your helmets and you'll be ready to hit the road!

Lewes Beach

Enjoy our beaches

There are so many local beaches to choose from just a short walk or bike ride from the Lewes House. The closest beach, Lewes Beach, is just outside our door. Take some of the beach chairs included in your rental and spend the afternoon sunning in between trips to 2Dips for some of the best ice cream in town. Less than 3 miles away is Cape Henlopen State Park. From here, you can access a swimming beach, surfing beach, disc golf course, picnic pavilion, and remnants of World War II bunkers and observation towers. Travel another seven miles and you can also visit Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach. You will have no shortage of sand and sun during your stay at the Lewes House, it's just a matter of where you would like to go to enjoy it.

Golf at Plantation Lakes

Play a round

There is no better weather to enjoy 18-holes in than the sunny and slightly breezy weather that is traditional for the area. There are 4 courses within a 10-mile radius of the Lewes House for you to enjoy. Just 4 miles away is the Midway Par 3 Golf Course. This course is well laid out and perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to enjoy a leisurely day outside. This is a walking course with plenty of shade and a great place to play a full 18-holes or just hit the front 9 early in the day before heading out on the town for dinner. Prices at these local courses range from $20 to $110 for a tee-time, so make sure you book your reservation in advance.

Game, set, match!

Just a short walk across the bridge you will find two public tennis courts as well as a basketball court and playground area at the Lewes Canalfront Park. We like to take a walk to the courts, play a match, and follow it up with celebratory drinks in town. It's a clean court that is easy to get to and fun to play on. However, it it fills up you can also always head to the local Cape Henlopen High School to see if you can hop on one of their courts for an hour or so. Even in 60 degree weather, the full sun and coastal breeze is perfect for getting your heart rate going and enjoying the outdoors.

Dining on your roof-top deck

Eat Al Fresco

Without even leaving the comfort of the Lewes House, you have the opportunity to enjoy priceless views from your rooftop deck or outside porch area. Pop a bottle of champagne, enjoy a fresh brewed cup of coffee, or serve dinner with the backdrop of a sunset all without having to leave the house. If you're looking to hit the town for outdoor dining options, there are more than a few to suit your needs. Agave has an excellent top deck where they serve small bites and a delicious selection of cocktails and margaritas. Our favorite is the classic margarita and guacamole! Gilligan's is another great option for outdoor seating with an entire outdoor deck right on the water. Striper Bites has a few tables outside if you're able to snag one, and Half Full has several tables that are typically in the shade which is perfect if you're trying to grab a bite in the heat of the day. Closer to the Lewes House before you even cross the bridge, you have Irish Eyes which features one of the best grapefruit crushes we've tasted and a newly renovated and opened Wheelhouse at Fishermen's Wharf has ample waterfront dining provided by two seasoned local restaurateurs.

With so many options for how to spend your time here in Lewes, these are just six of the excellent options available to you to get outside and enjoy our great town. We look forward to hearing of how you enjoy your stay and exploring Lewes.
